Weser Fireboat

At the time of the vessel's introduction the WESER was Europe's most modern fire-fighting cruiser, and the German Federal Republic's first ocean-going fire-fighting boat which was also able to operate in coastal waters. The fire-fighting cruiser was built in the Schichau-Unterweser yard, and was christened in Bremerhaven on 28.01.1974. Its primary area of action is the regional harbour systems and the river Weser reaching as far as the sea. In its lifetime the WESER has been subjected to one comprehensive refit, the most conspicuous modification being a new, sealed, gas-tight bridge. For fighting fires the WESER carries three fire cannon (fire monitors), capable of hurling a stream of water over a distance of up to 100 m. One of the cannon is mounted on a stand above the double funnel, and this can be extended to a height of 17 m above the waves. The two double searchlights above the lattice mast can also be extended upward, making nocturnal action considerably easier. Our WESER fire-fighting cruiser was drawn up to a scale of 1:30 with the use of original documents, and is designed in such a way that builders' wishes in terms of comprehensive auxiliary working systems can easily be accommodated. Building and operating the boat calls for experience in many model making techniques, so the WESER is recommended for seasoned model builders only. All the components which would be difficult to make, including the hull, moulded bow rubbing strake, inflatable boat, wind deflector, fenders, liferafts, breakwater etc. are supplied in the quick-build kit in the form of vacuum-moulded parts. The remaining wooden and ABS plastic components are supplied highly pre-fabricated. All these measures ensure that construction requires relatively little effort from the modeller. In this model we have placed particular emphasis on the accurate implementation of detail features, and the anchor winch and fire cannon are examples of this. The large number of pre-fabricated parts goes to produce a finished model which looks fascinating and includes much of technical interest. The WESER is also a fine choice for boat modellers who are keen to install additional working systems, such as operating fire cannon which also swivel, twin searchlights which extend and retract, a controllable lighting system, and much else. The hull provides ample space for the installation of a comprehensive radio control system. A separate RC plan shows the installation of the radio control system in detail, together with some of the possible auxiliary functions. The recommended electric motors are carefully matched to the model's size, and give the boat an impressive performance. This new version of the model includes completely revised building instructions and plans, and also contains a vacuum-moulded breakwater to make this part of construction easier. The kit now also includes the following parts: propeller shaft systems, propellers, rudder systems and all fittings (previously included in a separate Fittings Set), plus additional wooden parts such as the boatstand components.
