U-47
Submarine by Robbe
1:40th Scale German U-Boat
Electric powered, dynamic diving scale model submarine
Fittings and electric motors included
The U 47 is probably the most famous submarine of WW II. Under the commission of Lt. Guenther Prien it sank a total of 230.000 BRT. On Friday, October 13, 1939 it penetrated the stoutly defended principal anchorage of the British Home Fleet at Scapa Flow, sank or destroyed most of the battle ships and escaped unscathed.
In designing the model special attention was paid on the maximum possible scale fidelity, and accurate reproduction of the detail features of the original vessel. In spite of its impressive length of more than 1.7 m (5 ft, 7 in), the boat is highly maneuverable and has a good turn of speed. It features the dynamic method of submerging, making it a highly realistic model when in and under the water. An important feature of this imposing boat kit is the hundreds of flooding slots in the outer skin components, which are factory-cut in order to shorten the building time. For easy transportation in a car trunk, the boat can be taken apart.
