Hicks Engine Sound Module with Auxillary Sounds
The Hicks diesel marine engine was manufactured around the beginning of the twentieth century at the docks in San Francisco. These simple power plants were employed by the local fishermen to propel the small Monterey Clipper fishing boats during the heyday of the West Coast fishing boom.
The Clippers used scrap automobile hardware and no two looked or sounded the same. The motors were started by jumping on a big stick wedged in the flywheel or by a rope wrapped around the flywheel and given one or two good yanks. Our sound module uses the rope cranking sound. The idle rpms and full speed rpms do not vary much as there was plenty of torque but not much get up and go.
The horn and bell sounds are basic and simple, just as on the actual Clippers. Install our smoke generator and you’ll be ready to re-create the ambience of Cannery Row in the 1920s.
